Species
The initial Species of the reference collection
Traditionally, the limited availability of atlases and reference collections for USOs and the resulting constrains in their determination have been part of the underrepresentation of this resource in the archaeological record. A first step to overcome this situationthat has been approached by this project is the creation of a reference collection.
One of the key aims of CHUFA has been to develop an initial reference collection of roots and tubers, mainly from temperate Europe. A selection of 10 initial species native to the area and available for collection was made, as fundament for all protocols and further decisions.
